The Prompting of the Holy Spirit

“Wow! Wow! Wow!” For about five minutes, those were the only words I could speak as I praised the Lord for the intimate message He gave me this morning.

After completing my morning devotions, I felt a strong urge, an unction from the Holy Spirit, to text my former worship leader and tell her how much I appreciate and miss her, her husband, and their baby blessings. She has inspired me tremendously through her godly leadership, her dedication to Jesus Christ, and her love and commitment to her husband, family, and church. Next, the Holy Spirit prompted me to reach out to one of my grandchildren. I thought today was her birthday, but I had her birth date wrong! Still, everything worked out exactly as the Lord intended. Then something amazing happened.

Jesus First for Women

I began to feel restless and a little anxious because I didn’t know what I needed to do next. As I paced across my living room floor, the Holy Spirit directed my attention to my little devotional book, JESUS First FOR WOMEN, which my wonderful husband gave me for Christmas in 2025. I picked it up and opened it. Today’s devotion was titled KEEP BUILDING UP. This is what it says:

Encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing. ~ 1 Thessalonians 5:11 ESV

Every day is an opportunity to encourage someone. Every moment is an opportunity to receive encouragement. May we not get so distracted by our to-do lists that we forget how important it is to connect with each other in meaningful ways.

When was the last time you intentionally built someone up with a word of encouragement, a smile, or a helping hand? Today, may you take every opportunity you find to meet someone with kindness. May you be a ray of sunshine on someone else’s cloudy day. Remember what has been helpful for you on your own gray days and pay it forward. Every movement in love is significant; not one is overlooked by God.

[Prayer]: Jesus, thank you for the power of encouragement in our lives. Encourage me in your Word through others today as I reach out to give the same to others.

The Amazing Power of the Holy Spirit

Again, “Wow! Wow! Wow!” THIS was AMAZING!

Before I ever opened that precious little devotional book, the Holy Spirit had already prompted me to do exactly what that day’s devotion encouraged me to do: reach out and encourage someone.

I had already contacted my former worship leader. I had already reached out to my granddaughter. Then I opened my devotional and read a message about intentionally encouraging others. I could only cry and praise the Lord.

Through my tears, I thanked Him for using me. I thanked Him for speaking to my heart. I thanked Him for confirming His prompting through that precious little devotional. I’ve told my husband several times how much that devotional means to me because its messages are ALWAYS timely. Once again, God used it to speak directly into my life at exactly the right moment.

Even as I write these words, tears of joy flow from my eyes. My heart swells with gratitude because the Lord has called me His own. Most importantly, the Lord is REAL, and He continues to reveal His presence in my life.

What happened this morning reminded me of something important: when the Holy Spirit prompts us, we must learn to listen and respond. Sometimes He may prompt you to call someone. Sometimes He may tell you to send a text. Sometimes He may place someone on your heart who needs encouragement. Sometimes you may not understand why He wants you to do something until after you obey.

That was my experience this morning. I acted before I understood. Then God gave me confirmation.

Wow! Wow! Wow!

The Holy Spirit can speak to you, too. Quiet your heart and listen intently. When He prompts you to encourage someone, pray for someone, call someone, or simply show someone kindness, respond. You may never know how much that simple act of obedience means to the person receiving it.

Make Jesus Christ first always. Listen for the prompting of the Holy Spirit. Follow His direction. Encourage one another. Build one another up and never forget to give God all the praise and glory. He is most worthy to be praised!
