Make America Godly Again
I am a citizen of Heaven first and an American citizen second. America is the nation where I was born, and I am grateful for the freedoms and opportunities it has afforded me.
Â
As a descendant of enslaved Africans, I recognize the extraordinary sacrifices made by my forefathers and foremothers. They endured unimaginable hardship and back-breaking labor under some of history’s most inhumane conditions. Yet, after emancipation, they did not allow their past to define their future. They worked tirelessly, built businesses, strengthened their families, and helped lay foundations for future generations. Their perseverance, courage, and unwavering faith in Jesus Christ gave them the strength to press forward despite overwhelming obstacles.
Â
When I look in the mirror, I see a Black woman who was born free in America. But more importantly, I see a child of God—redeemed, forgiven, and sustained by His grace. My identity is not ultimately found in my race, nationality, or personal accomplishments. It is found in Jesus Christ.
Â
Many people speak of making America great again. While I appreciate the desire to see our nation flourish, I believe lasting greatness cannot be achieved apart from God. In my view, the only way to truly make America great is to make America godly again. Our nation’s moral strength depends upon our willingness to honor God, pursue righteousness, and live according to His truth.
Â
As Christians, we are called to love God, love our neighbors, faithfully proclaim the Gospel, and fulfill Christ’s Great Commission by making disciples of all nations. We are also instructed to pray for our leaders, our communities, and every nation, asking God to grant wisdom, justice, mercy, and peace.
Â
A nation becomes truly great not merely through its wealth, military strength, or political influence, but through the character of its people. When we humble ourselves before God, seek His wisdom, and strive to live according to His Word, we build a stronger foundation for future generations.
Â
So while “Make America Great Again” expresses a desire for national renewal, I believe that “Make America Godly Again” points to what I see as the deeper and more enduring path forward. A nation that honors God, values truth, cherishes freedom, and loves its neighbors is a nation positioned to endure.
