I recently worked on a social media project requiring me decide whom I cared about. On my personal page, I have over 500 friends including family. It may seem strange, but I do care about everyone on my friends list.
I care about your happiness, safety and security. I care when you lose a loved one, celebrate a birth, marriage, or anniversary. I care about your life successes. Working on a project requiring me to choose if I care about any of you was a terrible option.
Spending too much time on social media takes its toll on a person. The project required me to spend hours on social media. There were many sleepless nights as I saw things I believe no one should see and posts sensitive people should never read. When my emotions became depleted, I knew it was time to leave the project.
I’m happy to say I was very good at my job and was paid well; but I care more about my emotional health than money. I know myself well. I love myself greatly. I care about each of you and will not allow a project to ask me to choose. So, I will be taking some time off to recover, regroup, and reconnect emotionally and spiritually.
IMPORTANT ADVICE: If you are spending more than a hour on social media, check your emotional health. Are you feeling tired often? Are you losing sleep? Are you easily angered? If you have answered ‘yes’ to any of these questions, I implore you to take some time off social media. Your health depends on it.
